The Sims 4 Policy Update is Devastating the Game’s Community

The Sims 4 is a game that promotes inclusivity. The game has introduced many new customization options, including the ability for sims to select their pronoun and gender orientation.

The incest was an awkward episode amid all the changes. However, EA’s dedication to its players was highly praised by players. It is incredible how fast things can change. This week, The Sims 4 prohibited custom content creators from profiting from their creations. This has unsurprisingly devasted The Sims’ community.

Many The Sims 4 creators will suffer financial losses due to the change. On 21 July, the mod policy was revised. EA stated that mods are an integral part of the “game experience” but that they encourage creators of mods to “continue sharing their amazing content.” However, there is a catch.

EA stated that mods must be free of charge and non-commercial. Mods can’t be licensed, sold, or rented for any fee. They also cannot contain features that support monetary transactions of any kind. Mod developers can recoup development costs through passive ads and donations.

Gamespot reported that Sims creators quickly shared their frustration online. Marlynsims tweeted: “Looks like perma-paywalls really did ruin IT for everyone.” Creator JellyPaws wrote that Patreon had helped her buy groceries during the months of my job losses. To show the impact the new policy will have on creators. EA has yet to reply to fans’ dismay.
