Sam Kerr, a female player, is the FIFA 23 Cover Star.
This year’s FIFA news was quite wild. The games will soon lose their FIFA names. Although the change was rumoured for some while, EA announced in May that future releases, beyond FIFA23, will instead be called ‘EA SPORTS FC. It doesn’t quite roll off the tongue the same, but it is still fun.
EA stated that in addition to everything players love being intact, the new name would offer a “fresh chance – innovate, create and evolve”. This is consistent with Andrew Wilson’s previous comments, where he claimed that the FIFA title was an “impediment” that prevented them from changing many of their games’ status quos.
EA seems to be leaving FIFA with a bang. 23‘s cover will reportedly feature Chelsea FC Women’s, Sam Kerr. This will be the first-ever time the series has featured a female player on its worldwide cover. GGRecon reported these rumours. They are based on rumours from @DonkTrading, who claims Kerr will feature on the box alongside Kylian Mbappe, who was the star of FIFA 21.
This wouldn’t be the first time a woman has ever appeared on a FIFA cover. It happened initially in FIFA 16 when Alex Morgan was featured in the US, Christine Sinclair was featured in Canada, and Stephanie Catley was included in Australia’s (thanks to Engadget). Kerr’s appearance on the 23 covers is considered a worldwide affair.
Rumours have also suggested that FIFA 23 might allow cross-platform play in the series for the first time ever. It’ll be possible to play with friends on PC, Xbox, or PlayStation simultaneously.
