If you asked gamers to choose which games they would like to see remastered, I’d bet that most would pick Grand Theft Auto IV or Red Dead Redemption. Rockstar disagreed with this.

According to a reliable industry leaker, Rockstar was discussing remastering the games but ultimately decided against it.

This leak was discovered by the Twitter account TezFunz2. It stated that “remasters GTA IV and RDR1 had been on the table” a few years back, but Rockstar decided not to move forward with the projects. This decision could be due to the poor reception of Trilogy DE.

Ah well. It might have worked. The Grand Theft Auto Trilogy Deluxe edition presentation was the most disappointing. The game collection was nearly pulled from sale by Rockstar on its launch weekend. Rockstar received flood of requests to refund customers due to bugs and poor performance. This could have made them reluctant to touch any other IPs that they loved for the remake.

This timeline doesn’t add up as it stands. The GTA Trilogy DE was not released until 2021. There is clearly a discrepancy if other remakes were stopped “years ago”. Rockstar has not confirmed that the remakes were even in development. We don’t know why they were cancelled. We trust TezFunz2’s word and we move.
