God of War Ragnarok trailer confirms the game’s name and showcases new characters
God of War Ragnarok has finally released a new trailer that features returning and new characters.
At the PlayStation 2021 showcase, Sony Santa Monica announced today that the sequel to its highly anticipated original was now scheduled for release. There’s a lot to unpack in the God of War Ragnarok trailer seen just below, including the return of Freya, the talking head, Kratos, and Atreus wanting to explore the goings-on around Ragnarok itself.
This is the first concrete information we had heard about God of War Ragnarok’s existence since its unveiling last year in 2020. The “Ragnarok” subhead was revealed in a brief teaser trailer, with ominous strings orchestra music playing in the background.
Of course, even back then, we knew God of War Ragnarok would be coming to both PS4 and PS5. PlayStation revealed that the sequels to Sony Santa Monica’s and Guerrilla Games would be available on current-gen consoles, just like Horizon Forbidden West.
Last-gen gamers who want to upgrade to God of War Ragnarok’s PS5 version will not be eligible for a free upgrade when God of War Ragnarok arrives next year. As Sony just recently announced earlier this month, the publisher will now impose a standard $10 upgrade fee across all cross-gen first-party PlayStation games in the future. After criticisms, the publisher quickly announced the change that they had reneged on their promise of a new-gen free upgrade for Horizon Forbidden west. They also outlined the flat fee.
