FIFA 22 introduces a new league, the Hero ISL
EA has revealed the full list of leagues and teams for FIFA 22 – and there’s massive news for fans of the Indian Super League.
Formerly a temporary home for Robert Pires, David Trezeguet, and Roberto Carlos, the Hero ISL has 11 teams. It is the first full league to be added to the series since the Chinese Super League was introduced in FIFA 19.
These are the 11 additional sides:
- ATK Mohun Bagan
- Bengaluru FC
- Chennaiyin FC
- FC Goa
- Hyderabad FC
- Jamshedpur FC
- Kerala Blasters
- Mumbai City FC
- NorthEast United
- Odisha FC
- SC East Bengal
EA claims that the new additions bring the total number of teams to 700. There are more than 100 licensed stadiums and 17,000 registered players. You can view the complete list at the official EA website.
It also announced a new partnership in Italy with Lega Serie A. The Italian top-flight will now award a player of the month in Ultimate Team and 16 licensed clubs. This should allow more players to reflect the “unique characteristics” of Italian football – EA’s words and not ours. This should, at the minimum mean broadcast overlays for specific leagues in career and exhibition mode.
Atalanta, Roma, Lazio, and Lazio are the four clubs that FIFA has withdrawn licensing. They will still be able to use their correct player names, but they will be issued generic badges and kits.
- Juventus: Piemonte Calcio
- Roma: Roma FC
- Atalanta: Bergamo Calcio
- Lazio: Latium
Badges and kits for the four missing clubs are exclusive to Pro Evolution Soccer’s successor, eFootball 2022. Napoli will be, too, from football 2023 onwards – as revealed in a GamesRadar+ news story last April.
According to a company statement, “EA Sports and Lega Serie A have entered into a multiyear agreement that allows Serie A clubs authentically represented in-game. This is provided that those rights are available and are not held by any other party.” EA Sports respects the relationships certain clubs have with other parties but is committed to growing its presence in Italian soccer both now and in future.”
From the 2022-23 season, the Supercoppa Italia will be rebranded as EA Sports Supercup.
FIFA 22 will be released on Friday, Oct. 1, and Ultimate Team will get a whole new group of players. See nine of our FIFA 22 Heroes guides to see the best.
