After Fans’ Concerns, ‘Peacemaker” Director Updates Season 2
Although Batgirl was not in the news, we didn’t think it would be. This is exactly what happened this week. HBO Max canceled several original projects, including DC’s Batgirl & Scoob! Holiday Hunt.
Warner Bros. claimed that the changes were due to a “strategic change,” but this doesn’t tell us much. Fans began to worry about the futures of other HBO Max Originals, including James Gunn’s Suicide Squad spinoff Peacemaker. However, the director has issued an update that will put their minds at ease.
Gunn was asked by a fan via Twitter if season 2 of the show was safe, given HBO Max’s recent approach to DC output. The director quickly replied that the show was safe. Calm down.
The shocking part about Batgirl’s cancellation was that filming had already finished on the $90million project. It is believed that Batgirl was being re-edited in post-production. It’s unusual for a studio to cancel film projects at this late stage. Fans assumed that any HBO Max project would be next on the chopping block.
The second season of Peacemaker will likely be a long way away. Gunn also stated via Twitter that filming was not set to begin until 2023. This means that the series may not be released until late 2023. However, 2024 seems more likely. Gunn is currently working on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which will be released on May 5, 2023. It’s interesting to see who will appear in Peacemaker’s next season. Gunn has something to offer, I’m sure.
